If your 1Password account password is so long and inconvenient to type that it's leading you to worse security practices, you may want to consider changing it to something more convenient and easier to type. With that being said, if you're stepping away from your device for more than an hour, I'd strongly urge you to keep both the device and 1Password locked during that time, especially if you're at work where others may have physical access to that device.
